The name honours Mary Ann Grindall Hume, the spouse of British naturalist Allan Octavian Hume who worked in India. Mrs Hume’s Pheasant is the national bird of Mizoram and Manipur.
Long-tailed, dashingly coloured terrestrial bird. The male features a chestnut body, steely blue neck and wing patches, white wingbars, and a long tail with black-and-white bands.
